Getting two piercings at once?

I am thinking of getting two cartilage ear piercings done in the same ear, preferably on the same day (and at a reputable piercer, no gun piercing). What are the downsides to this? I just think it would be easier to manage in regard to cleaning and such, instead of getting one done, and then getting the other done a couple months later where they’d both be on different healing schedules. Also what is better for cartilage piercings during the healing stages, studs or rings?
